Each year, more than one-thousand new cancers are diagnosed at Athens Regional Medical Center. Every diagnosis means ARMC patients and their loved ones will try to do all they can to understand and cope with treatment and recovery. Our unwavering commitment is to provide the very best care possible to each person affected. Fortunately, our team of cancer registrars is behind the scenes helping us fulfill that commitment.

“Cancer registrars are data information specialists who capture a complete history, diagnosis, treatment, and health status for every cancer patient in the U.S. The data provide essential information to researchers, healthcare providers, and public health officials to better monitor and advance cancer treatments, conduct research, and improve cancer prevention and screening programs.” — National Cancer Registrars Association

Athens Regional’s Oncology Committee regularly uses data from our Registry to evaluate the quality of our care and develop needed improvements. See a great example of how the State of Georgia has also effectively used Cancer Registry data to inform and guide health policy to control cancer.

Our Cancer Registry Team

Our Cancer Registry Team is Susan Walton, Bernice Hector and Sherry Carlisle. They work tirelessly to keep our data current and complete. Thank you for all you do to improve the lives and health of those we touch!
